Collapses and Plummets?
And a cold dose of reality
The number of stories being copied and pasted from fossil lobbyists press releases by the remaining tiny handful of journalists is reaching a new surge.
What most of us don’t experience, but all politicians, civil servants and journalists who keep an eye on such things know, is the frenetic, incredibly well funded deluge of ‘reports’ from ‘experts’ about the absolute damning collapse in any demand for electric vehicles.
No, seriously, it’s over, believe me, there is no hope. Literally no one, according to GB News, a reputable news brand that delivers hard truth, no one who watches their channel, and that’s close to some actual few thousands of people, no one wants to buy an electric car.
Please notice two things on this headline. Sales are set to plummet.
They are not actually plummeting at the moment, but boy oh boy, you better believe it, they are set to plummet.
I have found half a dozen other reports that use the exact phrase set to plummet on various tatty old national and regional rags around the UK. This gives us a tiny peek behind the fossil-wash curtain, might it be just possible that the special ‘report’ that was kindly distributed by lobbyists last week may, possibly, I mean I’m just suggesting, may have contained the phrase set to plummet.
Sometimes there’s been a token editorial input, like this snippet from the good old Daily Mail. This one starts with the catch all term, experts. No indication of who these experts are, you don’t need to know that, just shut up, sit down and accept that experts have told you this you dummies.
Experts are warning that the sale of electric vehicles (EVs) will plummet following the European Union's decision to scrap the 2035 petrol and diesel ban.
So this time it’s not set to plummet but will plummet. Subtle difference there.
These stories were all generated when the lobbyists powered by massive financial leverage from the global fossil fuel industry have finally destroyed some silly old legislation in Europe. They’d finished pummelling, bullying and bribing the UK government last year, the current administration were no match for the fossil thugs and their no longer idle threats.
Yes, all that utterly ridiculous virtue signalling legislation passed by democratically elected politicians, and wait, hideous, vile, unelected members of the hyper elite EU parliament whose single aim is to crush our freedom and trap us all in 15 minute hell ghetto cities.
Oops, sorry, just had a spasm there, been doing too much research in the UK’s almost exclusively extremist ultra right wing press.
Just read that sub heading one more time.
The world of News.
WTF does that mean?
What we are seeing here is the oil thugs have successfully overturned legislation that was introduced to try and protect the actual citizens of the European Union, and also the poor, beleaguered brexit battered citizens of the UK.
Legislation that came into being after the UK and EU government listened to actual scientists, actual academics, people who had sampled air quality is cities all over Europe for decades and have absolute bucket loads of irrefutable proof that the gasses coming out of tens of thousands, nay, millions of combustion vehicle exhaust pipes actually do have an impact on human lungs.
But sod that, the automotive industry, as always backed to the hilt by the brutes hired by the fossil pigs, said We can make combustion engines really cheaply, and they will constantly go wrong and parts will wear out for their entire life cycle and we can sell servicing and spare parts for a decade for each crappy car sold, and who cares about the gasses we pump out of the exhaust pipe.
Screw the Chinese with their fancy, cheaper, really well made electric cars, we must stop that invasion and continue to smash combustion engine vehicles into the public’s faces, ram them down their stupid, ill informed throats. Buy petrol and diesel you dumb morons. No one wants electric cars.
But, here’s the thing.
Against all this hostility, against this torrent of lies and bullying, it is TOO LATE.
Here are some actual statistics, from commercial companies and organisations who spend time counting things like actual car sales, in Europe. An activity they have been doing for decades. These statistics are not from some loud mouth ignoramus like me, or some grubby little tosser who’s paid a fortune by some obscure lobby group.
At the end of 2021 just 11.6% of all new vehicles registered in the UK were electric, that is 100% battery electric, not some con job petrol hybrid.
At the end of 2025, a total of 34.6% of all new vehicles registered in the UK were fully electric. Now I’m no Einstein, but I think 34.6% is an increase on 11.6%. And this covers the exact period the scummy lobbyists are spreading the pathetic stories about the collapse of demand for electric cars.
Please forgive my strident language, but I have met people who do work for these lobby groups, heavily funded by the fossil fuel industry and the more angry and belligerent people in the automotive trade.
They were charming, delightful, happy people. Men and women, well educated, middle class, smart, and they thought they were winning.
They were patronising to me because I had stupidly put my head above the parapet and dared to initially question, and then criticise them, and reveal their operating methods. Back then they were patronising, but not threatened.
Now they are threatened and increasingly desperate. They know they are losing, they know the sales of petrol/gasoline in the UK and EU are measurably DOWN. There will be over 2 million electric cars on the roads of the UK this year. That is no longer a bunch of early adopting, niche posers and holier-than-thou green eco warriors.
It’s just people who buy cars and they want one that isn’t a ultra complex crap box with 1,300 moving parts and an endless need for servicing, oil changes, adjustments and spare parts. Oh yes, and expensive, imported, toxic fuel that you can only use ONCE,

There are currently 1.8 million EVs on the road in the UK, still a small percentage, but constantly growing, and that is 1.8 million fuel tanks less that get repeatedly filled with expensive, imported, heavily subsidised, toxic fossil fuel we burn ONCE.
Oh, srry, that is a repetition but I think it’s a worthy one.
That is many millions of litres less sales every week. That is a serious problem for the likes of Shell, BP, Exxon, Equinor, Saudi Aramco and of course the little Putin man who needs the money to send more young Russian men to a certain death in the killing fields of Ukraine
This increase in sales of EVs has nothing to do with government subsidies, or virtue signalling, or middle class fashion.
It’s 100% down to the fact that an electric vehicle of any kind is better technology, and as more and more people become confident in that technology, they will tell their friends, family and neighbours that it’s no big deal.
Electric cars are just cars that are cheaper to run, they last longer and they do all the useful and annoying things that cars do, only cheaper, easier and for longer.
And I’ve only referred to cars in this little rant. I haven’t mentioned delivery vans, busses, small, medium and heavy duty trucks, all of which now have very viable and in most cases wildly superior battery electric versions.
So things will change, it is 100% inevitable. But that does not mean it will be easy, as we can currently see in the poor old USA. However, even there, apart from the original electric car company founded in California on July 1st 2003, sales are remaining steady.
It’s going to take many decades, but in 30 or 40 years time, there will still be a fossil fuel industry, but it will be a fraction of the size of the brutish gang of thugs who currently have a vicious stranglehold on our economy and way of life.

Great rant as always thank you. I hadn't picked up on the subtle differences like 'will plummet' and 'experts say' - covering their backs against litigation whilst irresponsibly promulgating disinformation. Don't they have kids? Don't they care what they are doing to the world, or people's health? Power and money won't keep you or your kids alive any longer.... I despair
I'm frankly upset that the ban on ICE cars by 2035 has been rescinded, I didn't know that had happened. But does that mean then that manufacturers, who presumably also lobbied for this, will decrease their production of EVs? Or will market forces ensure that doesn't happen because more people would still want EVs now there isn't a deadline?
